Sylvia Earle

American Oceanographer Sylvia Earle was named as Time Magazine’s Hero of the Planet back in 1998, cementing her credentials as a true force for good in the world. The marine biologist launched the Mission Blue Alliance in 2009 as a way to help protect marine life by establishing a number of hotspot areas around the globe and through the creation of a network of likeminded groups and organizations working in the field. Life in the oceans is under greater threat than ever before, and the work of raising awareness of the unprecedented issues facing marine ecosystems that is undertaken by Earle is vital and valuable.
