The American economist, writer and activist has been incredibly influential in shaping political thought and action in respect of climate change and moving away from a carbon-dependent economy. This can be most clearly seen in Germany’s move to a low-carbon economy, something that is in part attributed to the impact of his book Third Industrial Revolution. The tome is just one of 20 books that Rifkin has penned, many of which deal with the impact of technological changes on the environment. The continual use of his influence to keep climate change high up the political agenda is invaluable. His science is difficult to dismiss.
